Family Home Organization

Welcome to November! Can you believe that we are already in the second to last month of the year?! 2020 has felt long at times but now that we are in November it feels like January was just last month.

Last week I taught a live webinar about family home organization. This is a subject I feel that everyone can benefit from. I wanted to give you just a few tips that I talked about in the webinar.

Tip #1: The first step to getting everyone in your home excited about organizing and willing to do their part is by recognizing what your expectations are for your home and the people that live in it. If you are one of the many people that feels frustrated about your family’s less than willing attitude to help organize and maintain organization in your home, first check in with what your expectations are. Are they realistic? Are they known to everyone in your household? If you answered “no” to both of those questions, there is your place to start.

Tip #2: Figure out how each person in your home creates order. Is it by having everything visible? Maybe they like things to be put into bins with labels. By identifying how organizing is made easy for them, you can create systems in your home tailored to each family member’s needs.

Tip #3: Be consistent. Lasting change does not happen overnight. Having a family that is all on board with your organizing goals is no exception. However, the more you recognize and vocalize your expectations, tailor systems to the individuals in your home and keep doing your best, the easier organizing in a family setting will be.

Want to dive deeper into how you can have your whole family in the organizing boat with you? I will be doing an online workshop about family home organization the first week of January. We will be going more in depth about the tips I just shared with you as well as some other juicy solutions you’ll want to have at the ready to make organizing a positive experience for you and everyone in your household. You can pre-register here.

Happy Organizing!
